As designers and manufacturers of the finest aluminium greenhouses since 1952, Alitex has built a strong reputation as the favoured glasshouse choice for customers and horticulturalists alike.

Winner of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show Director General’s Award and the Best Trade stand Award and countless five-star awards, there can be no doubt about how highly regarded Alitex is.

For more than 60 years, Alitex’s mission has been to create the finest Victorian glasshouses while providing the very best customer journey. This vision is still at the very core of the family business, which continues to grow with continued investment in both the people and the work they do.

For some, investing in an Alitex greenhouse is a long-held ambition, a recognition of the design superiority of the structures. For others, an Alitex is purely a thing of beauty, bringing both aesthetic charm and a practical, accessible feature to the garden. In any case, only the very best will do.

Each greenhouse and conservatory is bespoke to the customer and their surroundings. And so, from the moment a customer contacts Alitex, they embark on a creative process. The experienced sales designers work closely with them to fully understand what they desire. There are many design elements to consider beyond the aesthetic, which is why Alitex invests heavily in its design and manufacturing team to ensure everything is tailored entirely to the customer’s needs. The meticulously manufactured and powder-coated aluminium components of an Alitex ensures that it is an investment for life. The company continuously strives to refine its product design to offer the best possible growing environment.

Alitex recognises that a bespoke, luxury product should look beautiful and, with design excellence in mind, it has taken inspiration from one of the greats, Thomas Messenger, who had a passion for growing and creating an environment in which plants could thrive. Victorian glasshouses were traditionally made from wood which requires extensive maintenance. Today, Alitex has recreated the finer details of an original heritage structure that will stand the test of time in aluminium, as they continue to preserve the Messenger engineering legacy. Many mistake Alitex structures for wooden ones because their replications are always so sensitive and complementary to those from the Victorian heyday, making them ideal for period or listed properties.

Today, Alitex is highly regarded not just by its lifelong customers, but also by the great and good of the horticultural world. Testament to this is its long-standing relationship with – and endorsement from – the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. This collaboration ensures they stay at the forefront of greenhouse development and the growing environment within.

‘I am confident giving both a professional recommendation of the Alitex products and a personal recommendation,’ says Greg Redwood, Head of Great Glasshouses, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. ‘Notwithstanding our partnership, I have been recommending Alitex for years.’

Alitex is also proud of its partnership with the National Trust. With eight structures in the collection, each was inspired by and named after a National Trust site of horticultural significance. For every greenhouse sold, Alitex generates valuable income which goes towards the wonderful restoration and conservation undertaken by the National Trust.

Of course, Alitex’s design capabilities go much further, having worked on some of the most historically important gardens in the world and in iconic public spaces: Alitex has built greenhouses and conservatories all over the world, from Italy and Australia to Japan and Sweden.

For Alitex, it all comes back to the customer and ensuring they enjoy every element of their greenhouse. Alitex has over 64 years’ experience in making aluminium beautiful and with this knowledge behind them, the company always delivers something to treasure.

And it doesn’t stop there. Alitex remains committed to its customers long after they have finished building their dream; after all, an Alitex is for life.
