If you dream of adventure and freedom, of sailing across oceans and visiting those corners of the world others cannot reach, you need the confidence of a quality British-built cruising yacht to take you there.

At Discovery Yachts, traditional bespoke craft skills meet the latest in innovative modern technology to create the world’s finest blue-water cruising yachts.

The company was born when single-handed transatlantic sailor, John Charnley, and his wife Caroline, wanted the perfect yacht for two people to explore the world, and they commissioned renowned superyacht designer Ron Holland to create it. The result was the Discovery 55. It turned out to be the perfect yacht for many other people too, and what started as a personal ambition soon became a thriving business.

Not content with the available boatyards, the Charnleys bought land, put up buildings and employed great British craftsmen to make sure that every yacht was of outstanding quality. They honed every process: from top-knotch design and bespoke mould tools to highly technical laminating and superb joinery. As the number of those owning a Discovery 55 grew, they built up a team to support those owners – wherever they were in the world. Fifteen years on, there are now over 70 Discovery yachts and five different models.

Many elements make a Discovery yacht special: award-winning designs give great performance; there is the indulgence of a luxury home-from-home feel; they are effortlessly easy to sail, plus there is the unique feature of being able to helm from inside the boat. The real benefit is that the light and airy living space has a panoramic view of the world you are exploring.

Add to this the support that this family firm provides for the owners of their fabulous vessels and it’s easy to see why they are so highly acclaimed.

The model range includes the Discovery 55 Mk II, the benchmark blue-water cruising yacht that every sailor aspires to; the Discovery 58, luxurious, spacious and easily handled by two people; the more capacious Discovery 67 with its crew quarters; and the new and soon-to-be-launched Discovery 48: everything you’d expect from Discovery but in a smaller package. The overriding aim of Discovery is to build boats that combine strength and stability with reliability and performance, which
can easily be sailed safely by two people.

Whatever the model, clients can be sure of the quality; not only of the design but also of the build and on-going customer care. An investment in a Discovery is one of lasting value: owning one is the experience of a lifetime, from the pleasure of watching your yacht being created by outstanding craftsmen to the variety of experiences that you can have sailing it.

The great attention to detail is apparent in the exquisite wood finishes, interior furnishings and specialist equipment. Each yacht is bespoke, hand-finished and tailored to the owner’s needs and specifications, while drawing on the expertise of the management team who are all experienced ocean sailors. Whether planning to scuba dive with turtles on Pacific atolls, exploring the magical islands of the Caribbean or cruising up to the high latitudes for an Arctic adventure, Discovery will build the yacht to take you there in comfort, safety and luxury.

As Mark Twain said: ‘Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.’ Discovery Yachts makes this possible with great style and panache.
