Fancy a quintessentially English getaway at one of the country’s most impressive estates? You could win an overnight stay at the elegant Brocket Hall Estate as well as a fine dining experience…
Country & Town House has teamed up with the Brocket Hall Estate in Hertfordshire to offer one lucky reader and a guest the chance to dine in its two AA Rosette award-winning restaurant, Auberge du Lac, and stay overnight on the beautiful and historic estate.
The lucky pair will be treated to an eight-course tasting menu prepared by Head Chef Matthew Edmonds. Edmonds is a keen forager, often foraging in the Brocket Hall grounds for wild ingredients for his dishes, and he is also passionate about supporting British and local Hertfordshire suppliers – so the winners can look forward to feasting on the finest, freshest and tastiest ingredients available at that time of year. A perfectly paired glass of wine will accompany each course, carefully selected by the Auberge du Lac Sommelier who goes to great lengths to source the very finest wines available.
Following the meal, the guests will enjoy an overnight stay in Melbourne Lodge, an elegant Georgian coach house conversion situated in the tranquil grounds of the Brocket Hall Estate. With stunning views of the Hall, lake, and golf courses, the 16 luxurious rooms in Melbourne Lodge are the ideal place to retire after dinner. To top it all off, waiting in their room will be a chilled bottle of champagne – the best way to end the perfect day.
The Brocket Hall Estate has a rich and varied history, considered to be one of the most intriguing of any of the great houses in Britain. The scent of scandal and romance can be found in the very fabric of the building, going back to its roots in the 13th Century. Brocket Hall as it is today was built in 1760 and has been home to two Prime Ministers – and Queen Victoria was known to be a frequent visitor. One thing that hasn’t changed over the centuries, though, is the warm welcome that guests receive.
