While London Pride had to be cancelled for 2021, this mini pop-up is just one way of celebrating all things LGBTQIA+ in the capital this year. Beauty brand Aesop is dedicating two of its London shops to amplifying queer voices and stories with their queer library, popping up from 5 to 12 September. They will be swapping beauty products for books by LGBTQIA+ authors and allies on their shelves, and what’s more, they’re giving them away for free…

Visit Aesop’s Queer Library

Visitors to the Aesop Soho and Aesop Borough shops until 12 September will be able to take home a complimentary book of their choice (not dependent on purchase) from the displays of titles by LGBTQIA+ authors and allies from the UK and beyond.

The titles were selected by Aesop’s retail and office teams across the UK, who were asked to recommend their favourite queer authors and titles. From the selections, 3500 volumes were purchased from Gay’s The Word—the Bloomsbury-based institution and oldest queer bookstore in the UK, with Penguin Random House also donating more than 3000 books to the library. The collection features over 80 titles across fiction, nonfiction and poetry, with a focus on BIPOC authors and the trans community with authors including Bernadine Evaristo, Mohsin Zaidi and Shon Faye.

Aesop has also collaborated with K Bailey Obazee, founder of queer BIPOC storytelling platform PRIM, to curate a series of literary events in its Soho and Borough stores for brand advocates and friends of Aesop. The first will be an intimate conversation with writer Ayishat Akanbi.

Complimentary books from Aesop’s queer library will be limited to one book per visitor while supplies last and will be available with no purchase required.
