London’s 25-acre long Lavender Farm has re-opened for a flower fuelled summer…
The family-run Mayfield Lavender Farm allows Londoners to escape the city and wander through a sea of beautiful organic lavender, just 15 miles from the hustle and bustle of the city.
London’s Lavender Farm Re-Opens for Its Summer Season
Twenty-five acres of luscious lavender await in Mayfield farm ready for its summer season starting. Add a trip to Surrey to your agenda this weekend to be the first one on your Instagram feed to spread the lavender love. Explore the gift shop, grab a bite to eat in the al fresco cafe or catch a tractor ride around the farm; there’s plenty to do to soak it all in.
Since beginning in 2002, the lavender field was planted with the help of BioRegional and saw 70,000 tiny plugs go into the ground in hope for acres of purple to sprout the following year. After being eaten by magpies and crows, Mayfield’s determined owner replanted the seeds once more in 2003, and by 2004 there was lavender fever throughout Surrey.
Closed to the public until 2008, the farm was originally used to grow lavender for companies such as Procter & Gamble, Wella and Yardley. Now, the field is open every day during the season (until August 31) for visitors to explore, purchase and smell the abundance of lavender.
With July and August the best time to see lavender flowering, the farm makes the perfect day out for adults and children alike. For a bite to eat, head to the farm cafe where you’ll find everything from burgers to paninis on the menu as well as delicious homemade cakes. Try their afternoon tea with a glass of bubbles and be sure to try the lavender cider before you leave. No farm trip is complete without a tractor ride – an effortless way to experience the expanse of the gorgeous organic lavender, the tractor rides run each day and take 15-20 minutes.
You can even host your own party amidst the purple madness as their gazebos are available to hire during opening hours.
After all, is there really a better smell than lavender?
Mayfield Lavender Farm is open from 9am-6pm every day until August 31, with last entry for cars at 5.45pm.
Entrance costs £4 per adult and children 16 and under are free. Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome.
