Lunch time lifestyle: Everything you need to know on 30 June

Tesco is opening a ‘finest’ wine bar in London, Laurent-Perrier launches summer menus, Ernest Hemingway’s home becomes a cultural pilgrimage, and Loaf unveils a new catalogue.

Loaf new range

1. Tesco finest

Tesco (bear with me) is opening a pop up wine bar in the heart of London this summer – a la Aldi, which did the same thing earlier this year. The ‘finest* wine bar’ – noting the supermarket’s high-end range – will be open from Tuesday 2 August to Saturday 13 August in Soho. There’s going to be 70 wines to choose from. If you’re into wine, it’s definitely worth going to.

2. Letter pages

A collection of letters written by Audrey Hepburn has sold for £11,250, more than twice the expected sum, says the BBC. The 10 letters were written between 1951 and 1960 and were to her mentor and lifelong friend, Sir Felix Aylmer. The letters convey a dramatic decade for the star as she rose from ballerina to Hollywood actress.

3. Laurent-Perrier

To celebrate the culmination of Taste of London, Laurent-Perrier and The Grill at The Dorchester have partnered up to create a tasting menu. Executive chef Christophe Marleix has created a bespoke five-course menu paired with a glass of Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé champagne. The menu is available from June 20 to July 31 and is priced at £55 per person. The champagne house has also teamed up with restaurants such as The Cinnamon Club, Roux at Parliament Square, and Sea Containers for its summer promotions.

4. Big money

Hedi Slimane has been awarded €13 million by the Saint Laurent owner Kering. This comes after Slimane’s legal action against the fashion house and problems with his former contract as creative director.

5. Kanye West

Adidas is embarking on a new project (the most significant partnership with an athletic brand and non athlete ever apparently…) with Kayne West. The new project is a sportswear-inspired collection similar to that of the Yeezy collections, but is now entitled Adidas + Kanyne West.

6. Ernest Hemingway

The great writer’s house in Ketchum, Idaho, was recently placed on the US National Register of Historic Places. Here’s how to get there, where to stay, and what to do on your visit. It looks like a superb pilgrimage for Hemingway fans.

7. Eating

Here’s where and what to eat this month, according to Anastasia Bernhardt.

8. Kenya

The planes of Africa: the new Sky Safari that captures all of Kenya’s majesty. Read our story.

9. Thrilla

An estate Michael Jackson once called home is back on the market for $9.5 million, reports Forbes. It’s a Spanish-style mansion in Las Vegas and is suitably named the ‘Thrilla Villa’.

10. Loaf

Loaf’s new 50-piece collection has arrived. Here’s the brochure, which includes something called the ‘Snuggalump sofa’ (£1195). It’s French in style, laid-back in approach, and generally all very nice.
