What to Do Today: See ‘Season’ by TOAST x Phoebe Cummings.
Phoebe Cummings

The TOAST SS’18 collection brings ‘Elements of Materiality’ to life in a celebration of the building blocks the unify us all. TOAST is collaborating with British artist, Phoebe Cummings, to create a unique installation, called ‘Season’, made entirely from clay. Phoebe is known for her detail oriented, temporary sculptures that change over time – shrinking, cracking, drying and even dissolving. Throughout their metamorphosis, her sculptures will focus on momentary experiences, fragility and impermanence.

‘Season’ will show clay’s potential as a raw material and the way in which it changes from state to state and has a unique creative process from start to finish. Visitors will be able to see Phoebe build sculptures and then watch environmental elements such as fire, air, and water activate and change the work. The making and transition of the sculpture creates a continuous cycle as the clay, dug from the earth, returns to the earth.

In November 2017, Phoebe won the inaugural BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour Craft Prize. She also was the winner of the 2011 British Ceramics Biennial Award and work has been exhibited internationally at the Museum of Art & Design in New York.

From 8 March to 13 March, 10am – 6pm. Protein Studios, 31 New Inn Yard, Shoreditch, London, EC2A 3EY.
