T-Shirt: Cult, Culture, Subversion at Fashion & Textile Museum
The Fashion and Textile Museum’s newest exhibition centred around the humble T-shirt only opened last Friday, but it’s already caught the attention of London’s culture vultures and fashion crowd.
The exhibition explores the importance of the T-shirt in the 20th century, charting its history and the culture and subversion surrounding the most affordable and popular item of clothing on the planet. Featuring a private collection of Vivienne Westwood T-shirts as well as an introduction to the historical biography of the wardrobe stable, it provides a fascinating insight into its technological advances mapped through sections focusing on contemporary design.
T-shirts broadcast who we are and what we aspire to be, from being a symbol of rock and roll rebellion, as well as punk, politics and luxury fashion items. Seeing this inspiring exhibition is a great way to start your week, so head to the Fashion & Textile Museum to be one of the first to experience it.
Where & When?
The Fashion & Textile Museum is located at 83 Bermondsey Street, London SE1 3XF.
The exhibition runs until 6 May 2018.
