What’s On at Decorex 2021?

From inspiring talks to a circus-themed bar, there's plenty to explore at this year's Decorex

Now in its 43rd edition, Europe’s leading interior design show Decorex returns to Kensington Olympia this autumn with a mix of in-person and online events. A four-day exhibition will take place from 10 – 13 October, followed by Decorex Virtual from 16 – 18 October, which will feature all exhibitors from the live show.

Events will offer designers and suppliers the chance to connect with both new and familiar brands, plus learn about future trends in the industry. Many designers will present new collections, such as Arte, which manufactures luxury wallcoverings – often in-house through environmentally-friendly processes. Original BTC, meanwhile, will be launching its new Pebble pendant, hand-crafted in Stoke-on-Trent, while interior designer Rose Uniacke will showcase her new fabric collection for the first time.

Other brands exhibiting include Riviere Rugs, Zoffany, Dominic Schuster, Frato, Linwood and Vincent Sheppard. Pooky will also be showcasing its product launches from the past year, including its English Garden created in collaboration with Matthew Williamson.

Decorex favourite Future Heritage – which showcases undiscovered talent across different craft disciplines –will also be returning, with names this year including Frances Pinnock, Adam Nathaniel Furman, Kate Maestri and Anna Ray.

Each year, Decorex invites a renowned interior tastemaker to create a scheme for its bar – for 2021, it’s Sara Cosgrove, founder of Sara Cosgrove Studio. She’s gone for a circus concept: think exotic drapes, hand-painted motifs and sumptuous velvet, with lighting enveloping the area in a warming glow. She says: ‘Following the ups and downs of the past 18 months, when it came to developing the concept for this year’s Decorex bar I wanted to do two things, create a space for our industry members to reunite and secondly to do something fun. Our goal was to create a bar with whimsy at heart and a touch of mystery.’

Decorex always pulls out the stops on the entrance, too – this year Moritz Waldemeyer has created a display of butterflies which will form a canopy over Olympia London.

Visitors can also tune into talks with industry experts, such as Nick Hornby, Laura Hammett and Ray Clarke, available to watch live at the event or on-demand via Decorex Virtual. Topics being covered this year include the importance of heritage, colour in interior design, storytelling, commissioning craftsmanship and the relationship between sustainability and luxury.
