In ‘An Evening with Sophia Money-Coutts’, guests will be invited to join the award-winning author and journalist for a discussion and Q&A. The discussion will focus primarily on her debut novel ‘The Plus One’, a book that has been described as ‘hilarious and compelling’, ‘snort-inducing’ and ‘perfect summer reading’. The fiction novel follows the hilariously relatable life of Polly, a professional 30-something-year-old who’s on the hunt for the perfect ‘the plus one’ for the upcoming wedding season. ‘The Plus One’ was Sophia’s first novel, and prior to this worked at Tatler as their Features Director. During this time, Sophia studied, for five years, the ins and outs and fascinating history of British aristocracy. Prior to her time at Tatler, Sophia was a writer and editor for The London Evening Standard and The Daily Mail, as well as Abu Dhabi’s The National. Her impressive CV has taken her to some fascinating places and dropped her in the paths of all types of characters, and this intimate evening with the writer will, we hope, reveal some of these insider details!
The event will be hosted at Augustus Brandt, Newlands House. The Grade II listed shop is the perfect place to pick up unique modern and antique furniture, spread over 17 different rooms, so we recommend getting there a little earlier to potter around the shop before the evening begins. To start it off, guests will enjoy a drinks reception courtesy of Nyetimber, pioneers of English sparkling wines, with canapes by New Street Bar & Grill, one of Petworth’s finest restaurants. The live Q&A will follow at 7:15 pm, where questions will be open to the experienced editor, writer and author, followed by a signing session of her book.
