Can’t get to Rio de Janeiro for their world-famous carnival? Fear not – you can celebrate closer to home at SUSHISAMBA’s weekend-long party, complete with live entertainment, Brazilian food and tableside Caipirinha carts. Festivities at SUSHISAMBA Heron Tower will run from 20 – 23 February, with performances taking place nightly, from samba dancers to DJs spinning Brazilian grooves. Fancy dressing up? Unleash your inner Carmen Miranda at their new Baile da Arara Costume Party, taking place on 21 February, where guests are encouraged to create their own Brazilian-inspired look. Celebrations at the Covent Garden branch, meanwhile, run from Thursday through to Saturday.
Regional Executive Chef Andreas Bollanos has created some special dishes for the occasion, including Duck Harumaki: enoki, shiitake, cream cheese and spicy mango chutney; and Sambadrome: a milk chocolate and coconut dessert with yuzu jelly and passion fruit ice cream – washed down with Caipirinha cocktails, shaken tableside.
Brazil’s annual carnival is the largest party in the world. Every year floats surrounded by thousands of dancers, singers and drummers dressed in eccentric costumes parade through the Oscar Niemeyer-designed Sambódromo arena, organised by the escolas de samba (samba schools) of Rio de Janeiro. Across the five-day event, around two million people line the streets, with visitors flocking in from all over the world.
Iconic restaurant SUSHISAMBA offers a fusion of Brazilian, Japanese and Peruvian cuisine, with two branches across London: the original in Liverpool Street, and the second in Covent Garden. The Carnaval Weekender celebrations will be taking place across both venues.
