What?
On Friday 2nd November sustainable luxury company Elvis & Kresse are hosting a unique event at The Conduit Club in Mayfair, where attendees can try their hand at making a handwoven, rescued leather rug.
Elvis & Kresse have been transforming rescued raw materials into luxury accessories since 2005, from bags to wallets to key rings. Co-founders Elvis and Kresse set up the company after learning that London’s damaged decommissioned hoses were headed to landfill after a chance encounter with the London Fire Brigade. Since then, over 170 tonnes of material have been reclaimed.
Back in 2017, they partnered with the Burberry Foundation to try and tackle the global problem of leather waste, embarking on a five-year project in which at least 120 tonnes leather off-cuts from Burberry are being redrafted into new luxury items.
Visitors can gain insight into the interesting story behind the company at their upcoming pop-up event. You will get the opportunity to assemble a caramel leather rug alongside the company’s co-founder, Kresse Wesling MBE, while enjoying tea and cake.
One of the participants will be lucky enough to win the medium-sized rug, which will be handwoven from 805 individually cut pieces and valued at £780. And if you miss out on the top prize, don’t fret: everyone else will receive a £60 credit note for any future rug purchases with Elvis & Kresse.
Tickets cost £60 per person, and it’s for a good cause – 50% of profits are donated to the fire-fighters charity. The event will take place on the first floor of The Conduit Club as part of the Maiyet Collective’s monthly pop-up.
