The annual Gloucestershire Vintage & Country Show returns this August for a weekend of family-friendly vintage-style fun. This year marks the 45th instalment of the show and will once again be held at the South Cerney Airfield. One particular highlight of this year’s show is the impressive display of 700 classic cars, ranging from pre and post war. Car lovers can also expect to see 70 classic American models and 230 motorbikes, 70 bicycles ranging from 1903 – 1980, scooters, 70 full size steam engines, 30 miniature steam engines, 90 stationary engines, model engineering, 240 Emergency and Commercial Vehicles, 60 Industrial Trucks, 200 Tractors, over 80 Buses and Coaches, 120 Military Vehicles, 50 vintage Caravans and a huge Aircraft display. But these aren’t just on display to look pretty – non-stop live demonstrations will be ongoing in the Live Arena with the opportunity to drive a steam engine.
For the non-car lovers, there’s plenty to keep you occupied throughout the show. Enjoy old school fun on vintage fairground rides such as ‘electric yachts’, waltzers, big wheel, a model steam train, Punch and Judy shows and traditional arcade games. Visitors can also expect the Dog Show, a treasured highlight of the annual event, hosted by The Cotswold Dog and Cat Home. Categories include Scruffiest Mutt, Waggiest Tale and Quickest Sit. In the Countryside Arena, discover rare breeds and learn about animal conservation as well as enjoying falconry displays and admiring the alpacas, horses, sheep and reptiles on show.
Spread throughout the site are a handful of delicious food and drink ‘pit stops’, a particular one of interest being the vintage tea room where you can take part in 1940s inspired dancing with accompanying live music.
