August 2019 marks the third anniversary of the major summer music event held in Colne, Lancashire: The Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival. Spread over the bank holiday weekend from August 23 – 25, the festival boasts over 170 acts performing on 22 different stages across multiple venues across the town. A wonderful town away from London to spend the August bank holiday weekend in, Colne is idyllic and will be a buzzing hub of summer fun with its main street closed to traffic and replaced with on-street entertainment, food and drink stalls, bars, busking and much more.
There are 6 locations with line-ups. The Muni is a theatre and will host a curation of contemporary blues artists. On the Saturday, in between sets, enjoy live DJs and lots of groove. The Hippodrome, a main stage, will also be showcasing contemporary blues music featuring Geogg Achison & The UK Souldiggers, Voodoo Sheiks and Danny Bryant Big Band to name a few. The Mini Muni is an intimate, 100 person capacity second year addition to The Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival. Expect jazz blues, traditional blues, gospel blues, rock n roll on the stage, as well as workshops looking at the instruments often found in blues music: drums, bass and the harmonica. The Little Theatre stage, curated by British blues rock guitarist and songwriter Jack J Hutchinson, will showcase some refreshing talent in the industry. Highlights include Jade Like The Stone, The Head Hunters Blues Band and Dave Ferra. The festival also has various official ‘Roudhouses’: pubs, bars and restaurants across the town where guests can enjoy free live music events. Find the full list of venues here.
