HERSTORY

March 2 - March 24

HERSTORY

What?

In commemoration of International Women’s Day, Maddox Gallery is hosting a female-led exhibition, HERSTORY, showcasing the works of budding and established female international artists.

Aiming to shift the conversation surrounding women in art, the significant exhibition will feature artworks from the likes of Instagram art sensation Sophie Tea, American visual artist Beau Dunn, painter Lily Kemp, and multidisciplinary artist Lauren Baker, to name but a few.

Exploring a range of salient and relevant themes, from domesticity to spirituality, consumerism, identity and the female body, the exhibition draws together women from all walks of life to mark an important and international cause.

Maddox stated: ‘Equality isn’t a woman issue, it’s a business issue and over the course the week our actions, our conversations, the curated show will have a larger impact on a more equal art world for the future.’

Experience Sophie Tea’s eccentric and multi-hued nude paintings celebrating diversity and the female body, and Spanish artist Coco Dávez’s ‘faceless’ acrylic and block colour pieces examining identity and nostalgia. Other artists include Beau Dunn, whose bold and colourful works highlight societal pressures, Emily Ponsonby, a British artist using ancient Egyptian practices, and Graceland, whose art homes in on human consumption and self-obsession.

The ideal venue to showcase such a progressive and meaningful exhibition, Mayfair’s Maddox Gallery has showcased the innovative and ingenious works of countless international established and upcoming creatives, including that of Banksy and David Yarrow. Located within a prepossessing Victorian townhouse, the gallery’s façade has been spectacularly adorned with countless pink and red roses, coinciding with the impressive works showcased within.
