This February, the iconic Helena Bonham Carter will interview Lady Glenconner at Richmond Theatre as part of her live tour, An Evening with Lady Glenconner.
Maid of Honour at the Queen’s Coronation and Lady in Waiting to Princess Margaret, Lady Glenconner has spent her life as a friend of The Royal Family. Her memoir, Lady in Waiting, offers a unique insight into the royal history we’ve seen played out in hit Netflix series The Crown, in which Helena Bonham Carter plays Princess Margaret in seasons three and four.
During an in conversation event with Bonham Carter at Richmond Theatre, Lady Glenconner will be elaborating on the truth behind the series, as well as the drama and tragedy of her own life – from meeting her husband Lord Glenconner to turning Mustique into a paradise for the rich and famous.
‘I admire Helena Bonham Carter greatly as an actress and it’s not every day a Hollywood film star interviews you,’ said Lady Glenconner. ‘She was the perfect casting to play my friend Princess Margaret. I am thrilled to share the stage with her.’
Speaking about her close friend in Lady in Waiting, she writes: ‘People complained about Princess Margaret being difficult, but I think quite often it was because she was bored or fed up…not surprisingly, her idea of fun wasn’t sitting next to the mayor, the bishop and the chief of police for Sunday lunch.’
As well as The Crown, Bonham Carter has starred in films including Fight Club and Les Misérables.
Lady in Waiting by Anne Glenconner is published by Hodder & Stoughton and has been a four month Sunday Times Top Ten bestseller. Copies of Lady in Waiting will be available for purchase at this event.
