Trying your hand at Veganuary? Or having a bit of a detox after the indulgence of the festive season? Mark Kempson’s plant-based dinner, taking place at The Six at Hampton Court, is perfectly suited to January crowds.
Taking place on 17 January, Mark’s menu will feature a selection of nourishing dishes, all made using produce from the kitchen gardens at Hampton Court. Begin with an appetizer of spiced kale crisps, seeded crackers and smoked beetroot dip followed by barbecued salt baked celeriac, served with English truffle, rainbow chard and hazelnuts. Other dishes include winter squash dumplings with Jerusalem artichoke gratin, walnut and sage; alongside a spiced carrot cake dessert served with stem ginger ice cream. Doing Dry January? Fear not: food will be paired with servings of Real Kombucha, a healthy alternative to alcohol made from fermented teas – though if you do fancy an alcoholic tipple, that’s an option too.
‘Produce is key to any dish and after visiting the kitchen gardens at the Palace I was inspired to create a special plant based menu,’ said Mark. ‘Diners will enjoy an elegant, light and delicious dinner.’
The Kings Arms Hotel – which overlooks Hampton Court Palace – dates back to the 17th century, though recently underwent a major renovation, which saw the introduction of 14 rooms as well as restaurant The Six. Named after Henry VIII’s wives, The Six champions local produce, offering a modern twist on British cuisine. It’s headed up by Mark, who worked at two Michelin-starred The Vineyard in Berkshire before opening his own restaurant, Kitchen W8, where he secured a Michelin star.
