Just when you thought Sketch couldn’t get any more Instagrammable, the entirety of No. 9 Conduit Street is being transformed into a series of immersive gardens to coincide with Chelsea Flower Show. The beautiful flower display will run from the facade to the oh-so-pretty Parlour to the famous bathroom pods, thanks to top florists such as Thierry Boutemy, JamJar Flowers, Figa & Co, Carly Rogers, Tony Marklew, Ricky Paul and Rebel Rebel.
The annual Mayfair Flower Show is now in its fourth year running. Last year’s display was themed around the Royal Wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, with highlights including a floral and feather wedding dress, a wedding aisle, and fantasy honeymoon scenes from around the world. This year they’ll be celebrating springtime in the city, with Diptyque as main sponsor.
Highlights include a fantasy mural installation by Figa & Co, Timorous Beasties and Matter of Stuff, and a garden designed as an allegory to William Morris’ arts & crafts movement in the reception area. The East Bar & Pods, meanwhile, will be given a floral makeover courtesy of Carly Rogers Flowers with Insley & Nash, paying homage to the futuristic visions of nineteenth-century painter and sci-fi writer Jane Webb. Meanwhile JamJar Flowers will present “The Lost Room”, an indoor garden designed as homage to WilliamMorris’ Arts & Crafts style.
During the flower show, a number of floral-inspired menus will be available for guests across the dining emporium. A set lunch menu is available in the Lecture Room & Library, which uses wild and seasonal ingredients sourced from the UK’s forests – Pierre Gagnaire’s outstanding Flower Show Dessert, featuring elderflower ‘eau de vie’ parfait, strawberry, rhubarb crumble, panna cotta and more, is a piece of artwork in itself. Their acclaimed afternoon tea, served in The Gallery, will also undergo a floral makeover, featuring botanical-inspired cakes and pastries including an Elderflower and Lemon Tart and a Rose Flower Religieuse.
Chelsea Flower Show, meanwhile, runs from 21-25 May, held in the grounds of the Royal Hospital in Chelsea. The five-day event showcases the best the gardening world has to offer, from floral displays to garden design from all round the world.
