Where? Norwich and Norfolk
What? Taking over both Norfolk and Norwich for 17 days this May, the flagship arts festival of East England is returning. Norfolk & Norwich Festival transforms public spaces and brings people together to experience performance, theatre, music, visual arts, literature and circus. World and UK premieres, one-off spectaculars and more free-events will be hitting the festival over the weekend.
Spanning both the city and countryside, the event offers an abundance of activities and events for adults and children alike. Take the kids to a garden party at Chapelfield Gardens on 19 and 20 May for some circus, puppets and illusions. Hear the story of The Noisy Animals at a screening of the Noisy Holiday inside the Adnams Spiegeltent on Sunday 20 May. Catch a craft and banner making workshop at The Adnams Spiegeltent on the 22 May or even a part gig part spectacle from the Stopgap dance company at Sea Life Centre Gardens in Great Yarmouth.
London Philharmonic Orchestra will be making an appearance at St Andrews Hall on the 21 May and Three Cathedral Choirs on 24 May at Norwich Cathedral. For some circus action, head down to The Adnams Spiegeltent as Barely Methodical Troupe bring their talents to the party. Norwich Playhouse is welcoming Gandini Juggling’s new show of female artists on 22 May.
For outside events, head to Wells Beach during the sunset from 21-27 May to experience a series of sculptural installations as they come to life. Robotic woodpeckers are popping up across Norwich from 24-27 May and Norwich’s Cathedral will sound on the hour, every hour on 25 May to explore our relationship with time. A solo singer begins at midday and by 9pm a full choir will be singing.
