Glasgow-born artist Ralph Anderson showcases his work at his second solo exhibition at the JGM Gallery, This Is For You. On display are a series of paintings and drawings which show his work moving in an increasingly minimalist direction. A key part of his art is the way in which they engage with their surroundings: paintings are given a fluorescent backing, radiating a coloured glow from behind each work. He cites Katherine Grosse, Kristin Baker and Bernard Frize as key influences in his application of paint.
Anderson has developed his artistic style over a sparkling 20-year career. He has recently completed major commissions for The Hospital Club, where his work is on view across a three floor installation, as well as an installation at the Gare du Nord Eurostar Business Premiere Lounge. His work has also recently been exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery, Collyer Bristol Gallery and TM Lighting Gallery.
JGM Gallery was opened in 2017 by Jennifer Guerrini Maraldi, following years as a private dealer trading as JGM Art. Her aim was to create further awareness of Australian Aboriginal art, both in the UK and internationally. Jennifer became friends with Ralph back in 2006, and he was heavily involved in the design for the gallery.
JGM Gallery is located on Howie Street, in the new cultural hub in Battersea, home to the Royal College of Art, Vivienne Westwood Studios, Foster & Partners, and The Battersea Power Station.
