This autumn, famed Japanese restaurant ROKA is hosting a series of special dinners and masterclasses in celebration of its 15th anniversary. Events will be focused around sake – including their recently launched ROKA 15 – with a dinner taking place at their Mayfair branch in September, followed by a masterclass in October at ROKA Aldwych.
The dinner will involve a whopping 15 courses, all paired with sakes from the Tatenokawa brewery. Created by Group Executive Chef Hamish Brown, the menu features some of ROKA’s best loved signature dishes, including rock shrimp tempura with chilli mayonnaise, lamb cutlets with Korean spices, and crab black cod with prawn dumpling.
Fancy learning more about sake? Book a place on the masterclass, where guests will learn about Tatenokawa, one of Japan’s most dynamic breweries. You’ll also have the opportunity to sample ROKA 15 Sake, a premium sake created in by Tatenokawa with a limited edition of just 1000 bottles, described as having ‘sumptuous, fruity notes of green melon, pineapple, watermelon and subtle stone fruits’. This is to be enjoyed alongside a number of delicious ROKA dishes, including wagyu sushi, chicken skewers, yellowtail sashimi and rock shrimp tempura.
‘ROKA and Tatenokawa have worked in partnership for some time and it was a natural step in our collaboration to create a sake together in honour of ROKA’s 15th Anniversary,’ says ROKA’s Head Sommelier and Wine Buyer Laura Blanchett. ‘We are very excited to see the fruition of this very special project and share our passion for Tatenokawa with our guests.’
The first ROKA opened on Charlotte Street in 2004 – the brainchild of ZUMA’s Rainer Becker, who decided to build upon the increasing popularity of robatayaki, a type of cuisine focused around the Robata grill. Since then, the ROKA group has expanded to four branches: the original Fiztrovia location, plus Canary Wharf, Mayfair and Aldwych.
