Hosting three nights of spectacular and intimate operatic performances, The Sark Opera returns this September with a world-class line up of talented musicians, including the English National Opera’s Victoria Joyce and Yvonne Howard, the Welsh National Opera’s Principal Baritone, Mark Llewellyn Evans, and Jassy Husk, who has performed the soundtracks for major films such as Snow White.
Located within three picturesque venues across Sark, one of the English Channel’s most magnificent islands, the series of operatic events make the perfect excuse to escape to the coast for the entire weekend.
Opening on Thursday 5th September, with an evening performance at Island Hall, guests can opt to dine from an appetizing menu of dishes including lobster and cauliflower bisque, duo of Sark lamb, garden vegetable risotto with truffle foam and rocket, and lemon tart with raspberries and pistachio.
Saturday constitutes a Gala dinner and impromptu performance at The Stocks Hotel, inclusive of a welcome drink and delicious three-course meal accompanied with wine. Finally, Sunday’s line-up will see out the weekend in style with a glorious matinee performance hosted by Christopher Beaumont, the current Seigneur of Sark, at the stunning La Seigneurie, alongside a plethora of champagne and canapes.
This year’s leading sponsors, Montessori St Nicholas, a charity aiding over 700 educational institutions and 4,000 early-years teachers across the UK, has partnered with the Seigneur of Sark to raise money in support of grass roots education programmes.
Leonor Stjepic, CEO of Montessori St Nicholas says: ‘Maria Montessori said that music can touch us in way that nothing else can – and we’re delighted to be working with Sark Opera to celebrate her. The beautiful dark sky island of Sark has no opera house, so instead world-class performers take to small, intimate stages offering a different experience of opera. We’re excited to be working with the team at Sark opera to combine culture with the appeal of Sark, the smallest state in the British Commonwealth.’
