On a (hopefully) sunny weekend in July, head to Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire for two days of family fun, food, drink, entertainment and activities. The new festival comes as a sister event to Feast Festival at Waddeston, a celebration of food, drink and performance. Borrowing some of Feast’s best performers and boasting an impressively dense roster of ongoings during the two days, Summer Fest is a hit for families with something on offer for everyone.
Theatrical performances are at the forefront of Summer Fest with a line up of comedic plays, interactive games and bizarre spectacles. Don’t miss the tightrope walking Bullzini Family ascend ten feet off the ground; a life-sized interactive arcade game where players can bring their favourite vintage games to life such as Pac-Man and Tetris; and Bicycle Bistro, a 40-minute choreographed circus style mayhem. If music is more your bag, enjoy live performances by Waddesdon Choir, local musicians from Blackfrog Studios and last but not least, Mr Wilson’s Second Liners; 6 notherners bringing with them the sounds and colours of 90s club culture. To compliment all the high energy performances and bulk out the festival, the food and drink offering is a pull by itself. Shop from over 70 stalls selling hot food and bits to take away such as homemade chutneys, patisseries, local distilleries, charcuterie, cheese, crepes, curries and much more.
Another offering of Summer Fest is the Shopping Village. Here guests will be able to shop from creative, independent designers and makers. From jewellery to clothes, pottery to glass, you’re bound to find a unique peice of something or other to bring home. Plus, make the weekend an educational one by learning about Summer Fest’s venue, Waddesdon Manor. Go inside the house and take part in Show and Tell, where you’ll learn about some of the fascinating objects that give a glimpse into the history of dining and entertainment at the manor. Finally, for the adults, book an afternoon tea or a wine tasting and wash the weekend down with a range of Rothschild wines.
