The summer months in Britain are known for being full of traditional sporting events that have been taking place around the country for decades – Wimbledon, the Cricket World Cup, Tour de France. The list wouldn’t be complete without The Hurlingham Polo International Day at The Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club, this year falling on Saturday 27th July. The most prestigious summer sporting event of them all, International Day is an annual celebration of Polo, one of the world’s oldest sports which dates back to Iran in the 1st century AD. The International Day is full of fast-paced polo matches combined with entertainment, food, drink and shopping to make the day one well worth marking out in the calender.
This year marks the International Day’s 49th annual installment, and the excitement and anticipation surrounding the event never seems to dim. In a bid to win the grand Coronation Cup, Frasers England Polo Team will be competing with Argentina. There’ll also be a ‘Through the Levels Dressage Masterclass’ with Carl Hester MBE, the five-time Olympic British dressage rider. This presents a rare opportunity to learn directly from the expert the techniques and talents required to be world class in Dressage, allowing polo lovers from all walks of life the chance to immerse themselves in the sport. The 85 Club is the hospitality hub where guests can mix with polo VIPs and players and benefit from the best view in the house. Plus, once the day has come to an end, the celebrations continue at the after-party which has been, in the past, notoriously filled with the social butterflies of London’s high society. All these celebrations set in the English countryside on a (hopefully) hot July weekend day makes for an all-day polo party worth attending.
