Tunbridge Wells Puppetry Festival

October 11 - October 13

Tunbridge Puppetry Festival

What?

Enjoy a fun-filled day out with family and friends at the Tunbridge Wells Puppetry Festival, located in the picturesque and historic town of Royal Tunbridge Wells in Kent.

A celebration of the diverse and theatrical art of puppetry, the joyous festival – only one of five taking place within the country – will host an array of engaging shows, exhibitions, talks and workshops, along with compelling theatre performances from a range of local, national and international artists who have travelled from the likes of Italy, Spain, and Poland. From shows incorporating cult classics such as the Moonmins to impressive aerial acrobatics, the three-day spectacular promises to amuse and enthral for all ages.

Returning for its third edition, having first launched back in 2015, and spanning seven different locations across the Tunbridge town centre, this year the festival will feature the likes of a 17-foot-high Arbor tree commandeered by immersive theatre company Smoking Apples, a European street theatre act performing with marionettes, and a compelling puppetry performance of Lost Dog from Spanish company Cal y Canto.

Be inspired by a five-metre-high aerial rig at the Look Up street theatre show, delight in towering magpie puppets stalking the streets of Tunbridge, and explore the concept of migration with a thought-provoking performance from giant mule puppet, Kit and Caboodle.

Keeping the little ones in mind, there will also be an enchanting magic show from established magician Osvaldo Drevno, a magical story-telling performance of ‘Mischief and Mysteries in Moominvalley’, and a puppet-making family workshop where everyone can get involved.
