Faldonside – Melrose, Roxburghshire

Private Houses

Home is where the heart is, and for Pete and Posy, that was where they grew up in the Scottish Borders and where they returned to in 2012 to breathe life back into a family farmhouse with two self-catered cottages. Heated by a biomass boiler and powered by solar energy, this eco-friendly project drips with personality. Thanks mostly to Posy’s exceptional eye – she trained in constructed textiles, which shows in her exceptional and eclectic choice of upholstery. Thoughtful touches like highly textured window frames made from salvaged sycamore and constructed by local joiners give this property real soul. Choose from four-bedroom Number One Melrose in the centre of the village, the small but perfectly formed studio or The Lodge, an ultra-romantic cottage overlooking Faldonside loch. You can’t go wrong with any of the options. Situated in the middle of 500 privately owned acres, you can be sure you won’t be disturbed.

SEE

We are perfectly located for exploring the Scottish Borders & Edinburgh. Melrose for instance is a lovely market town with an abundance of independent shops and a bustling friendly atmosphere, just 4 miles away.

EAT

Kelso is a lovely historic market town with plenty of shops and stunning countryside and located just 15 miles away provides the perfect pit stop for coffee, before heading on to Edinburgh only a further 1 hour drive. If you dpn’t fancy taking the car, why not take the train from Tweedbank, on the way to Melrose.

BUY

Galashiels provides the larger commercial shops (3 miles) and Selkirk – well known for its Selkirk bannock and old textiles mills – is only 3 miles away.

Nota Bene

The Studio & The Lodge are hidden in the Melrose hills neighbouring estate to Abbotsford House, the home of Sir Walter Scott. He loved riding his horse across these hills and helped to design the woodlands here at Faldonside.
