The Ickworth Hotel – Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk
East Anglia

Of the Luxury Family Hotels group, The Ickworth is surely the most remarkable. For anyone, however aristocratic, it would make an impressive place to stay, but the fact that the East Wing, home to the eccentric Hervey family for almost 200 years, now offers fun and relaxation to families, is remarkable indeed. Central to Ickworth is its vast Rotunda and views over formal gardens and gently rolling countryside. The hotel entrance is flanked by rows of Dubarry boots, and families romp happily about. Babies are looked after in the crèche, while older children can tire themselves out in the indoor pool or adventure playground. Parents can escape to the treatment rooms and enjoy a romantic supper for two, thanks to the baby listening service. Bedrooms range from traditional to modern and chic and include interconnecting rooms and suites, plus apartments in Ickworth Lodge, a short walk away. With 1,800 acres of parkland to explore and a dog-friendly ethos, The Ickworth is the perfect hotel to bring your four-legged friends.

Explore the 1,800 acres of National Trust parkland surrounding the hotel. Take a walk through the Italianate Garden, hire a bike, or visit the priceless treasures in the Ickworth Rotunda’s State Rooms. Follow the Hervey family’s history through portraits by Gainsborough, Hogarth and Reynolds.

Dining at The Ickworth is extremely flexible and suited to all families. Head Chef George prepares a new, freshly sourced menu every evening for Fredericks, the formal dining experience, as well as offering child-friendly options served in the conservatory for a relaxed family feel. Children’s High Tea is catered for every day from 5pm for little ones with hungry tums!

The hotel has a range of Elemis products stocked on-site which are used in our Treatment Rooms and also provided in hotel bathrooms, the perfect gift for a loved one or just for some indulgent ‘me time’.

Nota Bene

Nestled in the stunning Suffolk countryside, Ickworth House was home to the Hervey family from 1829 until 1996 and was influenced by the Italian travels of Frederick Augustus Hervey. The beautiful interiors are grandiose in design but the atmosphere inside is that of a relaxed, family focussed feel with plenty of facilities for all of the family.
