Middleton Lodge Estate –
Richmond, North Yorkshire
The North

This perfectly proportioned country retreat (on the Palladian estate of Middleton Lodge, a superb private house and wedding venue) is just about the coolest hotel in Yorkshire. Once a neglected estate, owners James and Rebecca Allison are conjuring it back to its former glory. There are now 29 bedrooms across the estate, a buzzing yet relaxed Coach House restaurant with an all-day menu, and superb treatment rooms. Another 11 bedrooms are on their way in the Dairy – expect stone barns, huge beds and metal indoor and outdoor bathtubs. They’ve also spent the last two years restoring the two acre Walled Garden. The Fig House (once the site of the estate greenhouse) is now styled in bottle greens, with church doors and garden antiques, creating a beautiful, unique venue. The latest addition is the Forge Restaurant, restored from the old barn, serving an ever-changing tasting menu picked straight from the estate. Think of Middleton Lodge as a sleeping beauty, which James and Rebecca are coaxing back to life.

Nota Bene

The Walled Garden has recently completely restoration, after being designed by RHS Chelsea Gold Winner and landscape architect Tom Stuart-Smith
.
