Strand Palace – Covent Garden, WC2

In 1909 Strand Palace Hotel welcomed its first guests, as successfully then as it does now, with the best of London on its doorstep. Set on the famous thoroughfare, The Strand, the hotel is just minutes from Covent Garden and the River Thames, making it the perfect location for guests eager to explore the heart of the capital. Strand Palace has just undergone a multi-million-pound refurbishment, taking the hotel to the top of London’s four-star rankings. The large-scale renovation included all 785 guest rooms, while a brand-new art deco-inspired restaurant and bar, Haxells, has transformed the hotel into a one-of-a-kind destination for all its guests. The art deco styling recalls the hotel’s stunning makeover in the 1920s, featuring a foyer now on display in the V&A Museum. Today, Haxells Restaurant & Bar brings new-era dining to this iconic hotel. The 240-cover all-day restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a quintessential afternoon tearoom and private dining room.

Nota Bene

A key belonging to the hotel, dating back to the First World War, was found in the trenches in Normandy, France. It is thought that an Australian soldier chose not to return the key after staying in London, and it was later lost among the carnage. The key is now housed at the V&A Museum in London, along with the regal revolving doors that once gave Strand Palace the elegant art deco look it was famous for.
