The Glasshouse, Edinburgh

Photo 1 of

There’s plenty to make you smile in this luxury YTL Hotels-owned boutique property, from the welcoming young staff to the breathtaking views from countless floor-to-ceiling windows – The Glasshouse is no misnomer. The hotel was built in 2003, incorporating the listed, weathered-stone façade of a Victorian Gothic church and keeping its elegant crenellations, tower and arches intact. The Glasshouse’s best-kept secret is a glorious two-acre roof garden tucked under Calton Hill, transporting you from the heart of the city to the depths of the country. Among the most inviting of the 77 contemporary rooms, which blend wood veneers and bold colour, are the Garden View Rooms, with doors to the outside. Some of the suites have generously sized balconies large enough for a cocktail party. Enjoy a sumptuous picnic while admiring the remarkable views on the rooftop or retire inside to enjoy a traditional dram of Scottish Whisky in the intimate Snug.

SEE

Edinburgh Castle. This ancient stronghold dominates the capital’s skyline and is a great day out for the family, or on a sunny day visit Calton Hill, in the centre of the city. The hill is a UNESCO world heritage site, built as the home of the Scottish parliament but never used, and known as ‘Scotland’s disgrace’ — an unfinished monument to the war dead and a fascinating slice of history just steps from the city. For those with a specific interest in all things Royal, discover life onboard a ship that served the royal family for over 40 years with a trip to Royal Yacht Britannia, or head to Palace of Holyroodhouse, the official resident of Her Majesty, The Queen in Scotland.

EAT

The relaxed dining experience in the Snug at The Glasshouse allows guests to enjoy light bites and seasonal classics, all using locally sourced ingredients, around an open fire. Guests can then indulge in the extensive whisky collection and range of delicious cocktails.

BUY

Visit Multrees Walk; home of the biggest brands in Edinburgh, including Scotland’s only Harvey Nichols, Louis Vuitton & Nespresso stores. Multrees Walk is located just a short walk from The Glasshouse and offers our guests only the very best, luxury labels.

CLAIM TO FAME

Founded by philanthropist  Lady Glenorchy, the 1846 chapel was originally constructed as a free church for Edinburgh’s under-privileged. Its 19th-century façade forms the hotel’s distinctive entrance today.
