It’s hard to think of a more luxurious country escape surrounded by more stunning countryside. Set on the Bolton Abbey Estate of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire – 33,000 acres of prime Yorkshire Dales – this deeply spoiling, welcoming and cosy hotel offers richly decorated bedrooms, fine dining in the Burlington restaurant and home cooking in the contemporary brasserie. The Devonshire Spa uses Temple Spa treatments and is housed in a separate barn conversion across the road with a pool and gym. The handsome coaching inn, built in 1610, stands in landscaped grounds and has wings that wrap around a formal Italian garden. Inside you will find impressive artwork, antiques and elegant furnishings, much of it chosen by the Duchess herself. Dinner is a highlight, thanks to Paul Leonard, who was trained at Gleneagles and gained a Michelin star at the Isle of Eriska hotel. His bountiful fruit, vegetable, herb and flower garden is a natural extension of his kitchen.

The Devonshire Arms Hotel, located at the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, is perfectly located a short 15-minute walk away from picturesque Bolton Abbey. Guests staying with us shall receive a complimentary parking and access pass to explore the Bolton Abbey Estate at their leisure. The local towns of Skipton and Ilkley are also just 10 minutes’ drive away, and guests can easily find themselves in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park along country roads through the nearby villages of Burnsall, Grassington & Appletreewick.
Two on-site restaurants allow guests to experience a range of dining experiences, from fine-dining in the highly acclaimed Burlington, to the relaxed Brasserie & Bar, a riot of rich colour where original artwork adorns the walls. Both restaurants offer menus filled with fresh, local produce; and anything that cannot be found in the Kitchen Garden is instead sourced from local suppliers.
All guests receive complimentary spa access during their visit with us, but we recommend one of our luxury Temple Spa treatments for those wanting to truly relax. The unique series of holistic treatments combine traditional European and Eastern Philosophies, releasing tensions and restoring a sense of absolute well-being.

Owned by the Duke of Devonshire, the Hotel is steeped in history and charm, much of the interior artwork has come from Chatsworth’s Devonshire Collection, one of the finest private art collections in Europe. In 1981 the hotel underwent a major refurbishment and additional bedroom were added, under the supervision of Her Grace the Dowager Duchess of Devonshire. You can find her personal touch still evident throughout the hotel, and no two bedrooms are the same.
