Welcome to the House Guest podcast brought to you in partnership with Life Kitchens, where C&TH Interiors Editor Carole Annett chats with experts from the world of interior design and decoration, the people behind the houses and hotels you see in glossy magazines like ours. Some of the names will be familiar, and others may be less so, but we’re sure you’ll recognise the hotels and restaurants they’ve designed. And if you’re in the middle of your own building project or restyle, we hope you’ll pick up some tips. Enjoy!

House Guest: The C&TH Interiors Podcast in Partnership with Life Kitchens

Alan O’Rourke inherited his love of audio and design from his father, a furniture maker, whose early projects often included wooden cabinets for televisions and radios. Alan spent his youth in the Southend on Sea workshop which was filled with musical instruments and carpenter’s tools – a schoolboy dream. ‘I was lucky,’ he says, ‘in our school band we had the best equipment, including a Fender guitar’. Between them they turned a hobby into a business, making speakers to recreate the recorded sound of live music, encasing them in traditionally inspired wood casing. ‘I love seeing the product from a concept in our head, seeing it come to fruition and then the customer feedback – how listening to music from a Ruark has transformed their day.’ Ruark has collaborated with Linley and is the chosen radio for the Savoy, Chewton Glen, Cliveden and a host of other boutique hotels. ‘We’re not a big company so we need something that catches the eye’. Tune in to House Guest to hear more.
