On 2 August, the 2018 Magnolia Cup charity race at Goodwood Racecourse will feature a field of women from the worlds of business, sport, fashion, medicine and media.

In a celebration of female power, 10 amateur riders will set aside their day jobs to become jockeys for the occasion.

The Magnolia Cup has raised over £1.2million for a number of charities since its inception. For its eight year, the 2018 cup benefits Cancer Research UK, a charity that continues to tackle women’s cancers, helping to prevent and improve the diagnosis and treatment of breast and gynaecological cancers. The race itself is run over five-and-a-half-furlongs down Goodwood’s straight in front of a crowd of about 25,000.

The brave Magnolia Cup riders (most of whom had never set foot in a racing yard before their training started) are as follows: cancer researcher Dr Amanda Cross, recently qualified doctor and cancer survivor Dr Camilla Hickish, milliner Emily Baxendale, British model Rosie Tapner, businesswomen Shadi Halliwell and Katie Forrest, gallery manager Anna Rowlinson and media professionals Lady Alice Manners, Victoria Gray, Sarah Cook and Holly Thomson.

The riders will wear bespoke silks designed especially for the occasion by London-based Iranian designer Morvarid Sahafi of Morv London, an ethical womenswear brand that reflects female empowerment and is inspired by the Suffragette movement.

‘We are delighted to partner again this year with Goodwood to support the strong women taking part in the race at the Magnolia Cup. It is an inspirational moment in the sporting calendar, empowering amazing amateur riders to race at the highest level and raising vital funds to fight cancer.’ – Nadja Swarovski, who will present the winning rider with a Swarovski crystal trophy.

Swarovski will adorn key attendees on the day with pieces from its latest jewelry collections.
