We take a look inside the new handbag collection of Downton Abbey’s Michelle Dockery as she launches a beautiful line of handbags in collaboration with the historic British company Aspinal of London.

As straight and to-the-point as Lady Mary, the recently launched bag collaboration is simply called the Dockery collection.

And the actress drew inspiration from her most famous part for the collaboration. “She’s the most stylish character I’ve ever played,” Dockery says of Lady Mary. “I learned that less is always more and changing up colours and styles is fun.”

Moving from reticules that hang over the wrist in the first season, Downton’s Lady Mary moved into the ’20s with simple clutch bags that you could easily wear today.

Influence came equally, however, from closer to home – her grandmother’s vintage bag was dearly loved by the actor from a young age, and its clasp’s satisfying clunk might be responsible for her decision to have a similar clothing on the new Aspinal range.

The Dockery comes in two sizes, two silhouettes, and nine colours , from peacock to dusky pink to bordeaux to jet black. A beautiful series of bags and scarves that evoke timeless classics, the collection has an essence of vintage with a fresh, contemporary twist – they can be worn anywhere, day or night, and are the perfect choice for the sophisticated and stylish woman of today. Surprising considering the roots of their inspiration, but then, Lady Mary was always terribly ahead of her time.

The timeless elegance of both the Dockery and the Dockery Snap bag establishes them as classic statement pieces to be cherished and handed down through generations – she was always one for keeping it in the family.

Selling out fast, this is a collaboration not to be missed. Featuring a plethora of styles, colours and materials you’re bound to fall in love with one of them (perhaps in a Christmas special?)
