Frame London

Frame studios are taking over London. With studios in Victoria, Kings Cross, Queen’s Park and Shoreditch, you ar never far from a great workout. There’s something for everyone in terms of class variety and level, with a bespoke membership for yogis. Classes are fun and empowering, from the music video dance classes to boxing and barre. There are longer and shorter class options and even meditation classes for those of you who need a bit of headspace. Onsite there’s also a post-gym smoothie bar, and a forgot your kit rental service (we’ve all been there…) and shop on site. Membership from £65 per month, pay as you go also available, locations around London.

Hailed as the new sport du jour, thanks to Gigi Hadid and her other Victoria’s Secret Angels, boxing is an aerobic workout that tones as well as burns fat and Kobox in Chelsea (and soon to open in the City – watch this space) offers one of the best boxing workouts in London. Be prepared to sweat… a lot. This new state of the art, members only fitness studio offers the highest level of professional boxing training in the heart of Marylebone, on Chiltern Street. Anthony Joshua is an investing partner, says, ‘BXR is a passion project for me. I want people to train like I train. We have pulled together the best coaches, medical teams and equipment in the business and brought the ring to Chiltern Street.

A trip to Heartcore is so much more pleasant than your average gym. You are greeted with warm smiles, cosy and stylish interiors and in the middle of the Ride2Tone class (half spin, half toning yoga) you are handed a scented damp cold towel to refresh you before you head into the yoga class – it’s the attention to detail that makes you love it here. With classes such as dynamic pilates, ballet barre, and rope-based TRX, Heartcore has everything you need to become as lean and elegant as a ballerina. The classes are hardcore, as the name suggests, but in an intense, specific way. They have studios cropping up all over London, with a new spin and yoga studio in Notting Hill. Classes from £17, locations all around London.

Can you picture yourself in a spinning rave-like nightclub? Well, that’s what Psycle is like. Inspired by Soul Cycle in America, the classes are available all day, and in a variety of lengths from 45 to 90 minutes depending on how hardcore you’re feeling. Not for the faint-hearted, the playlist is as important as the instructor. Each trainer brings their own personal playlist to help motivate you throughout the session. Classes start from £20, two locations, one on Mortimer St, the other in Canary Wharf. 

South Kensington Club

Step into the SKC for the ultimate wellness rehaul. Whether you are in need of some TLC in the Bathhouse, a nourishing juice, or a full body workout in one of the classes (with two to three every hour, you’ll have plenty of opportunities…), South Kensington Club is a one-stop shop for wellness. Along with some of the others, this is one of the new hybrid gyms that specialise in just three classes – because that’s all you need. The gym has been referred to as ‘the king of gyms’, with modern interiors, delicious Munchfit food available, and highly edited classes. The classes include Ride, Reshape, and Rumble. Ride, as you might expect is a supped up version of spinning, Reshape does what it says on the tin and challenges your body and muscles for 45 minutes of physical and mental intensity, and Rumble is a cardio boxing class that will have you feeling like a martial arts pro. This month, 1Rebel has introduced a new REHAB Squad package where you choose from the three signature classes – Reshape, Rumble and Ride – and are dared to attend 10 sessions in 10 consecutive days. ‘Rehab Squad’ costs £120 and you can join for any consecutive days during the month (first 10 days of the month). Classes from £20, in Broadgate Circle, or St Mary’s Axe in the City.

Trademarked as one of the best workouts in the world, Barry’s Bootcamp has become an iconic gym class for the fittest and healthiest people. And celebs. This really isn’t one to do if you are not keen on shouting, and being pushed to your absolute maximum, but if you are, you’ll love it. Brave it if you can. In the spring, a new studio will be opening in Queensway, accommodating up to 53 customers, with state of the art facilities. Classes from £20.
