Anna Dello Russo’s Guide to Tuscany

What is your favourite Tuscan memory?

My first time at Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco. You find yourself in a place for the first time and you immediately feel a strong bond with the place, the location, its deep-rooted traditions. This incredible sense of place combined with privacy, attention to detail and authentic Italian feeling is the best mix. Respect of the origins with the highest service.

Do you have a favourite traditional Tuscan dish?

Definitely pappa al pomodoro. It’s a dish from the peasant tradition made of simple, fresh and genuine ingredients. Its taste is mind-blowing. This is the secret of Italian cuisine: simplicity combined with exceptional raw materials.

What are essentials for a first-time visitor to Tuscany?

I strongly suggest a pair of walking shoes to explore this country estate and its amazing surroundings. Comfortable yoga clothing as this is the best place for practicing and reconnecting with yourself.

What is the quintessential Tuscany experience?

A helicopter transfer that takes you directly to Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco for a villa escape. You immediately feel disconnected from the real world. Besides the quietness and the amazing surroundings, I love having a delectable breakfast in the kitchen of my villa and arranging a private Tuscan dinner with a chef…ending your night admiring the starry sky with a glass of Brunello. It’s truly quintessential.

How should one dress for a stay in Tuscany?  Any style must-have’s?

I suggest wearing light chiffon to have the Tuscan breeze going through it and feel this incredible sensation on your skin. A cashmere blanket for the most romantic picnic in the middle of the vineyards and comfortable shoes to explore the countryside.

Any shopping secrets or must-visit stores in Tuscany?

I highly recommend visiting Florence to discover the historical artisanal laboratories which are still today producing tailor-made, precious pieces.

Is there a must-visit town or attraction in Tuscany?

Siena is probably one of my favourite cities…you can touch the rich medieval history throughout its historical centre…and Piazza del Campo still leaves me breathless.

What’s so special about Italy?

You can’t find the quality of life in Italy anywhere else in the world.  The combination of natural beauty, cultural heritage and the human dimension is truly unique. Here you can really enjoy life.

What is your favourite journey?

The next one.
